Hebburn is to return for second series 19 Mar

Last month BBC2 confirmed a second series of Jason Cook’s North East sitcom, Hebburn after it proved a ratings hit on Thursday nights.

Speaking at the time, Cook said: “There was always a longer storyline in my mind for the characters, and during filming of the first series I had a chance to start writing more about them. Once the actors brought them to life, it was easier to start putting those ideas onto paper.”

He added: “The cast all did such a great job with the first series, I could write for them for the rest of my life.”

A second, six-part series of Hebburn is due to air this autumn, with a Christmas special to follow.

Filming begins this summer.

Hebburn wins RTS Award 19 Mar

Jason Cook’s BBC2 sitcom Hebburn has won Best Drama Production at the RTS North East & Border Centre Awards! The judges praised Hebburn for its “originality, its authentic cast and its lovingly accurate portrayal of life in a Northern town”, adding: “We felt Hebburn is a classic in the making.”

Of the achievement Jason said: “It was absolute madness as we were so sure that we hadn’t won, but as they were saying the nice things about the program that had one it dawned on us that it could actually be our show.

The next few hours are a whirlwind of lots of booze and fun, including taking Vic Reeves out for a drinking session in Newcastle with the rest of the Geordies.

Amazing, and thanks to everyone that enjoyed the show and emailed in to tell the BBC.”
