Be ready for pretty much anything when Jason Cook takes to the stage. Behind his cheerful Geordie exterior lurks a dark, sharp comedic mind capable of taking an unsuspecting audience to places they didn’t want to go. Dwarves, newspaper vendors, the toilets at raves, true-to-life stories that drag you in and won’t let go. Cook is close to the edge but always intriguing and blessed with the sort of charm that’ll have you laughing in spite of yourself.
Performing stand-up professionally since 2005, Jason’s career has seen him complete a sell-out world tour, take home the coveted award for Best International Show at the New Zealand International Comedy Festival and write & star in two series of his own sitcom “Hebburn” for the BBC.
Beginning his career with Newcastle based sketch group, Soup, Jason moved solo in 2007 and has since amassed an impressive collection of critically acclaimed shows of his own including ‘My Confessions’, ‘Joy’, ‘Fear’ & most recently ‘Broken’ earning nominations for awards such as Best Show at the Manchester Comedy Festival LOL in 2009 and winning Best International Show at the New Zealand International Comedy Festival in 2008, alongside completing a sell-out, world tour. Jason has been invited to perform at the most esteemed comedy festivals across the world including the Adelaide Fringe Festival where he hosted the entire season of the prestigious Best of The Edinburgh Fest showcase for the month.
Back on home soil Jason has completed a number of solo national tours and firmly cemented himself as a favourite for circuit club-bookers, frequently popping up at popular comedy nights across the country, from the notoriously tough Hyena Club in Newcastle and Manchester’s Frog & Bucket to noted comedy haunts of London, The Soho Theatre and The Comedy Store.
In 2010 Jason finished writing his own sitcom, ‘Hebburn’ which broadcast in a primetime slot on BBC2 for two series. ‘Hebburn’ was based on Jason’s life in the town and boasted a stellar cast including; Jim Moir, Gina McKee, Chris Ramsey, Kimberley Nixon and of course Jason as ‘Ramsey’. Series one won critical acclaim and opened to an audience of more than two million. A second series was quickly commissioned by the BBC and the series was also sold to Australia where it broadcast at a primetime slot on Saturday nights for ABC1 and was noted as one of their top ten most watched programmes.
Most recently Jason was the face of Jacob’s crackers, starring in primetime television ads as ‘Jacob the Baker’ and also the Npower ‘standing up for customers’ campaign.
Oh, and he won Celebrity Mastermind… so he’s clever too!
Currently Jason is writing for his next solo show and has a number of projects in development both on and off screen. He also runs his own comedy night and is a frequent choice for corporate bookings.
