  • 2017 NOMINEE – LASTMINUTE.COM EDINBURGH COMEDY AWARD BEST NEWCOMER

Rising star Chris Washington is taking the comedy industry and audiences alike by storm. In 2017 Chris was working full time in Wigan as a Postman when he used all his annual leave to take his debut show ‘Dream Big (Within Reason)’ to the world’s biggest arts festival with no management or PR and came home with a sparkling nomination for the coveted lastminute.com Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Newcomer. A feel-good underdog story which he describes as getting five numbers and the bonus ball on the comedy lottery. The last year has seen Chris’ comedy career go from strength to strength and in January 2018 he handed in his resignation to the Royal Mail.

Re:Play Breakthrough Comedian of the Year Winner and a finalist in the Magners New Comedy Act in 2015, Chris has been likened to a “Peter Kay for the smart phone generation”. In January 2018 he brought his aforementioned Edinburgh Comedy Award nominated show to London’s Soho Theatre, followed by two sell-out shows at the Salford Lowry studio, a sell-out show at Leicester Comedy Festival and received invitations to perform at Latitude, Festival 41, Kendal Calling and Festival No. 6, as well as supporting both Tom Stade and Jason Manford on tour.  In August, Chris returned to the Edinburgh Fringe with his eagerly awaited second solo show, ‘You Beauty!’ frequently selling out his venue at The Pleasance Courtyard and recommendations to see his show from both The British Comedy Guide and Chortle.

Alongside stand-up Chris was selected to headline his own episode Live From The BBC which aired on BBC One and BBC Three and was the most viewed of the series. This year he has also released four online sketches for BBC Three’s ‘Quickies’ series, earning over 5 million views and quickly becoming some of their most successful of the series. He has also made appearances on The Super League Show, Radio 1’s The Comeback show and co-hosted Jason Manford’s weekend radio show for Absolute Radio. Currently, Chris has a number of his own TV and Radio projects in development including his own sitcom optioned and in development with Paul Coleman (whose credits include Peter Kay’s Car Share), another scripted project with BBC Studios, a fact-ents show with Hitchhiker TV and his own radio show – more details to be announced soon.

2019 is already set to start with a bang for Chris, in February he will take his aforementioned show ‘You Beauty!’ to The Salford Lowry once again, this time gracing the big room and in the spring he’ll be flying over to Melbourne for the International Comedy Festival before returning to the Edinburgh Fringe again next August.
